3:12 pm - Happy Holidays -- Blogging after 48 years
When I logged in, there was a note that said last update was 14 weeks ago. It's been that long?! Well, the only excuse is that work has been toxic. When I got my Jedi Knight status, work has also doubled. Trainings are almost every night and we had a lot of activities as well. Hell week in college? Try hell months in the office.

***

Christmas is really different when you're not home. This year marks my second one in another country. Last year, friends and I just went to the 'winter' carnival in Dubai. This year, my sister and I are just going to church and having Noche Buena with friends who'll be spending the holidays here as well. The boylet, on the other hand, is in Manila, having managed to book a ticket as late as September. Yes, September is already quite late, since most of my Pinoy officemates booked their holiday tickets as early as July. For New Year's Eve, though, we're going on the Duck Tour, this amphibian vehicle (oh yes, goes on both land and water) that tours Singapore. Highlight of the night is the fireworks display. We only get to watch at bawal ang paputok dito.

Here, Christmas is more of an event that people need to get over and done with. Not like back home where it's tradition.

Even the office Christmas party was not that festive. Just bunches of officemates milling around at what was supposedly th hippest place in town (which played Britney spears and teen pop ll night long). It was nice, that's the only good thing I can say about it. It's not as fun as other company parties I've gone to. I mean, who can forget getting roped into a masquerade ball, or a tribal dance? Or the hours of countless practice after work just to prepare for the company presentation?

***

Since the boylet is back home, we got him to deliver gifts for the family. The one who walked away with the most is my brother, who scored a big, black Star Wars box with a lot of freebies inside. According to my mom, he's tickled pink over everything inside, and she suspects that he will be sleeping with the box for the next few weeks. Being the youngest, and the only boy (with 4 older and working sisters), he benefits the most from these holidays.

It's a good thing that my sister is also working here already, so I'm not all by my lonesome. I'm hoping to get the rest of my family over next year for a visit, probably during the summer. We'll probably do a late Christas celebration then.

Merry Christmas everyone!

6:57 pm - Yoda is my guy!
I have achieved Jedi knighthood. One month ahead of time.

Whee!

The evaluation went something like this:

Jedi Master: Evaluation we must talk about.
Me: Yes, Master.
Jedi Master: Positive things only. Negative none. Here you must sign.

(Jedi Master trots off to the Jedi Council)

15 minutes later...

Jedi Master (handing me letter): Jedi Knight now you are. May the Force be with you.

2:17 pm - New look
Hmmmm, the colors still need tweaking, and I guess I have to take more interesting photos, but at least the look has changed.

Many thanks to y_slaybelle for the codes.

It's Saturday and I'm bored. I'm tinkering with my LJ while waiting for the washing machine to finish the first batch of clothes before I load the second batch. Sigh.

On the health front, I am managing to go to the gym on a regular basis. Not much on working out as in lifting weights, but joining the classes. Yoga and dance are fun, as well as kickboxing. I've gained weight since I got here, but I'd like to think that I look better with a little more meat on me. At least I'm not that thin anymore.

7:34 pm - Green bean soup
I and a couple of officemates went to this Malaysian noodle place for lunch yesterday. I ordered the usual -- fried rice and dumplings while they had noodles and mango prawn rolls (sounds exotic, doesn't it?) Towards the end of the meal, we got complimentary dessert: green bean soup. Yes, I know it's soup, but here they consider it dessert. When I peered into my bowl, I realized that it was munggo -- but not like the one we know with ampalaya leaves, meat/fish and chicharon. Instead, it had this cloudy soup, which tasted sweet.

Weird.

It was the last working day of one of my Pinoy officemates today and we had a farewell lunch in the nearest Pinoy place. It took about 2 hours to consume all the food -- crispy pata, kare-kare, pinakbet, adobong manok, bistek, sinigang na hipon and Bicol express. For dessert, we shared a round of halo-halo, leche flan and halaya. We were alll trying to fight off sleep when we got back to the office.

10:18 pm - Light sabre gets its own space sequel
Luke Skywalker's light sabre is heading home.

The famed movie prop from George Lucas's Star Wars franchise will be flown into space on board the space shuttle Discovery, which is scheduled to launch on Oct. 23.

In a Star Wars-studded ceremony, which took place at the Oakland International Airport yesterday, the prop was handed over to NASA officials, who will put the light sabre on display at Space Centre Houston before it is readied for flight.

7:41 pm - Free stuff
You know what I like about my job? The freebies. In the one and a half months I have been there, I've gotten a watch with the SW logo (in this cute little box with 'May the Force Be With You' embossed on the lid), a shirt, cap, ILM postcards, and playing cards. I also get free movie tickets every month.

The downside to the job is the very hectic pace. I don't think I've every worked this hard in my entire life. I literally hit th ground running when I come in, get up just to go to the bathroom and have lunch. If there's training, I stay behind to make sure everything goes well. The good side to the late nights is that I get free dinner. I'm still checking if I can get my cab fare reimbursed.

Today is actually one of those days that I managed to get home earlier than 10pm. Yay for me!

It was only when I was taking my dangling earrings off that I realized I was wearing a mismatched pair. For the entire day.

10:42 pm - Finally!
After 48 years, I have finally updated (somewhat) my blog. Accomplishment for the day!

The only excuse I have is that I have been very busy. Really. After a short vacation in Manila, I flew to Singapore see the boylet after being away for 18 months (!) and try my luck here. Turns out luck was on my side. I flew here on social visit pass, applied for an extended pass to be able to look for a job, and managed to find a job before the immigration stamp ran out -- whew! So now, I am officially part of the workforce here (and still a bagong bayani aka OFW). More on the job later...

***

When I was in Manila, I didn't get to meet with all of my friends. Well Singapore turned out to be a small world. I was able to catch up with catinthehat, bumped into Tiffy, an old college mate, in the gym, and found out that marky was also here on vacation. This week, a childhood bestfriend was also here, and we did manage to hang out before she flew back home yesterday. It's been great! It's like I never left home, sort of.

***

As for the job, I am currently working for the Star Wars company as a padawan. Hopefully, I will achieve Jedi Knight status in a couple more months. The job, so far, is fun and interesting, though very challenging and tiring. I'm still with the Training department, though this time, I'm not doing the trainings myself. It's a coordinator position -- arranging trainings, updating the calendar, managing the Library, etc.

I work with an eclectic group of people -- mostly artists -- who are very interesting characters. I'll try to write a different post about them when I have time.

***

On to the technical stuff. How do I customize my page? I wish I could add pictures at the top of the page, like some of you have done.

***

Anyway, that's about it. I'm off to bed. Good night!

10:20 am - Bum
I have been home two weeks and am really savoring the freedom of waking up on my own time. Not to mention going to SM, meeting up with friends, and generally just hanging out. I've updated my CV already, but haven't really taken the time to sit down and troll the net for job openings. Maybe next week.

So what have I been up to? So far, I've been on a job interview, went on a body scrub/spa session, gotten a haircut, manicure and pedicure with foot spa. I've been to the derma and the opthalmologist as well. Last stop is the dentist. I couldn't do all these in Dubai because everything is so expensive. Hence, the mad frenzy for kikay session.

And yes, taong bahay ako. Hahahahahahaha.

5:06 pm - Home Sweet Home
Of course, the first thing I noticed when I got home was that NAIA is direly in need of repair. Though I'm glad I got all my luggage since I wasn't able to get a direct flight to Manila. I was way over baggage but didn't have to pay for the extra weight thanks to the nice Pinoy check-in guy. Good thing we checked in early.

Am I ramblng? Chalk it up to my out of whack body clock -- haven't been able to sleep (I mean really sleep) since last Monday. My back is also aching since my hand carry was kinda heavy -- tama bang may nagbigay ng chocolates weighing about 5 kilos?! Grrrr.

Of course, traffic is still the pits, not to mention the pollution and everything else, but it's good to be home.

***

Nobody knew I was arriving yesterday. I got a friend to pick me up at the airport and when I got home, everybody was screaming and yelling. By this morning, my sisters were borrowing my stuff (haven't had time to unpack so everything is still in my luggage) and generally making noise as they all got ready for work so still no sleep for me.

***

So what's next? I dunno yet. Still have to unpack, update my CV and start jobhunting. But for the meantime, I'll just savor being home. Grabe, I really missed the food.
